NEW KENSINGTON: THE PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY
by george Guido

The idea for this book came from similar publications illustrating nearby communities such as Tarentum, East Deer, Vandergrift and Ford City and was designed to be unveiled during the New Kensington Quasquicentennial in 2016. The text research was done with the aid of previous historical publications, personal interviews and archives at the Valley News Dispatch and People’s Library of New Kensington.

GEORGE GUIDO was born in Citizens General Hospital on Oct. 27, 1953. It didn’t take him long to develop a great affinity for local history— sports and otherwise. George began working for the local media while in high school, with his first assignment being the cable TV telecast of the Kiski Area at Valley high school basketball game on Feb. 19, 1971. His work with the former Westmoreland Cable TV-3 and WKPA Radio took place until 1988. Since then, George has been working at the Valley News Dispatch and other Trib Total Media publications. In June of 2016, George finished his 43rd season of covering high school sports. Besides his work in local news and sports, George is responsible for the “Remember When” historic and nostalgic feature each Sunday in the Valley News Dispatch Living section. George Guido is also the author of "ALLE-KISKI SPORTS HISTORY, A Century of Sports In the Western Pennsylvania Region."
